The A2 Maastricht steering group announced on June 25 that the A2 Maastricht project will be realised by the Avenue2 consortium, consisting of Strukton and Ballast Nedam. Awarding this contract means the ‘Groene Loper’ plan was selected. The steering group includes representatives from the Ministry of Transport, Public Works and Water Management, the municipality of Maastricht, the Province of Limburg and the municipality of Meerssen.
The plan derives its name from the ‘Groene Loper’, a green belt that stretches along the existing A2 zone from north to south through the city. Over a stretch of 2.3 kilometres, the stacked, underground tunnel with 2x2 tunnel sections will offer a great deal of traffic capacity. A tranquil, socially protected park avenue will be built above the tunnel for local traffic.
The consortium partners, Strukton and Ballast Nedam, will receive support from other parties including ARCADIS Nederland, West8 Urban Design & Landscape Architecture, dGmR and Bex* Communicatie.
