In September 2006 the waste water purification plant “Harnaschpolder” will begin its purification activities. Construction work is generally complete, and the installation can commence operation. Every effort is being made to keep inconvenience to a minimum, but it is possible that some nuisance will occur in the form of odours. The installation employs an environmental friendly biological process to purify the water, and this can lead to some odour being produced in the start-up period of a few weeks.
The Harnaschpolder project is of great importance to the entire region around the city of The Hague, having been built to meet the increasingly stricter demands that European legislation is putting on the purification of waste water. It also takes account of the increasing number of people living and working in the region. To prepare for the future, the Polder Board of Delfland started the project “Waste Water Region The Hague”, which in addition to the construction of the purification plant in Harnaschpolder, includes the renovation of the existing plant Houtrust in The Hague and the modification of the entire pipe system, to be able to transport the waste water to both purification plants.
