Development competition Schiphol-Almere

Today, the award ceremony for the development competition Schiphol-Amsterdam-Almere will take place. The Department of Public Works involved private parties in the drawing up and fitting in of the capacity development between Schiphol and Almere.

Together with Zwarts & Jansma Architects, OVG Project Development and OKRA Landscape Architects, Strukton submitted its plan on the 13th of March. The Skyway plan implies an extra level on top of the current A9 highway to separate local and through going traffic around Amsterdam, in favor off building a tunnel through the Naardermeer nature reserve. It offers an integrated solution for traffic, environment and landscape, without taking up extra space. The plan also achieves considerably faster and cheaper realization.

With the development competition Schiphol-Amsterdam-Almere, the Department of Public Works called up private parties to come up with creative solutions for several alternatives set out by the Government. Generally only social and realization cost of a project are discussed. Skyway proves that infrastructural projects offer opportunities to generate both financial and social benefits, due to an integrated approach of the solution for the new infrastructure. Skyway will not only tackle the traffic problem, but will also benefit the surrounding environment.
